KVELLURVEIEN

We’re no strangers to monumental kitchen designs, and this experimental three-piece in Sandnes is no exception. Located next to the beautiful Sandved park river we’ve been partaking in a full house renovation. The refurbishment focuses on natural materials and seamless transitions while keeping original details such as tiled wall and arcs, respecting the buildings historical context.

From the dark stained fishbone flooring, the grid-based kitchen layout arises in a monotone wooden palette, contrasting the light grey plastered brick wall. With tall cabinets framing a garden window, the minimal layout is strikingly symmetrical, asserting its position in the room with exclusive character.

The rigid vertical grid system – a system of columns combing both oak and marble in a somewhat eclectic expression – where the blotching ‘New White Beauty’ marble fills in the blanks. Furthermore, the varying green toned marble adds freshness, while keeping some subtlety coherent with an earthy colour scheme. In a neighboring room the smaller utility kitchen confirms the design, giving more depth and calm to the experience of the main kitchen.

Tied together by 33 individual pieces of marble, this project also has a playful side, pushing the complexity of construction norms. The arrangement is made possible with thorough collaboration across fields of expertise in stonework and cabinetry. In addition, the effortlessly integrated appliances add a final layer of refinement, where the fridge handle is integrated into the vertical framework, and the dishwasher front- partially made of marble, is hidden within the grid system.

Completed: May 2024
Type: Kitchen with utility section, private
Location: Sandnes
Materials: New White Beauty Marble, oak, stainless steel
Appliances: Gaggenau, Dornbracht, Tapwell
