HERMETIKKEN RESTAURANT
On the ground floor of one of Stavanger’s famous historic buildings, which once served as a canning laboratory – we now find Hermetikken Vinbar & Vinbistro. In recent years, this space was used for offices, leaving us a neutral slate for refurbishing it into a room that now asserts refinement – an interior that substantiates dedication to wine and food.
This project has been an exercise in scale – pursuing a home-like feeling without compromising on sophistication. The layout is human-centered with enough space for guests to enjoy a calming atmosphere, while still having room for a small industry kitchen and tempered storage for a thousand wine bottles. Although it appears neat and downsized, the kitchen is fully equipped with cooling drawers and industrial size appliances.
The furniture evokes both brutalist and posh sentiments, all executed with eye-catching details. The kitchen island is immutably positioned in the center of the room. A grid-based wine cabinet – projecting a dynamic surface which flows through layers of wood, brass, lighting, and glass – is backdropped against the kitchen island. The observant guest may note a resemblance between the wine cabinets, the kitchen island and the neoclassical facades of the building itself, with its neatly structured columns and strong centerpiece.
Used for both counter- and tabletops, the Breccia Capraia marble contains green, blue, and brown undertones in its dark parts, adding subtle but fresh co-lours to the otherwise limited earth-toned palette. The rigorous, symmetrical placement of the furniture elevates the home-like feeling into something more distinguished, mirroring the selection of wine and food served.
We wish to thank all involved parties in achieving this beautiful place, and the continuous great collaboration with its initiators. A team effort of many qualities.
